Honouring Loved Ones: Creating Meaningful Funeral Rituals
Published 03/08/2023
The loss of a loved one can be difficult, but funeral rituals can serve as powerful tools for healing and honouring the memory of those who have passed. Creating meaningful funeral rituals can both pay tribute to departed loved ones and help us find solace in the process of grieving. In this blog post we will explore ways to create meaningful funeral rituals. Personalise the funeral Every individual is unique, so this should also apply to their funerals. Personalising the funeral allows family and friends to celebrate the life of their loved one in a way that reflects their personality, passions and values. Favourite music, hobbies, or quotes can be incorporated into the funeral service to create a meaningful experience, unique to the person who has passed. Location matters The location of a funeral depends on both the family’s wishes and the wishes of the deceased. Some families may find solace in more traditional places of worship, while others may opt for something a little more unconventional, such as a garden, beach, forest, or a favourite spot of the departed. It is important to choose a location that resonates with the deceased’s life and provides a comfortable place for loved ones to gather and remember. Celebrate their life Consider incorporating rituals that celebrate the life of the departed instead of focusing solely on mourning. Friends and family members could be invited to share cherished memories, a memory board could be created with photographs and mementos, or a video montage could be shown. Acts of kindness A popular way to honour the memory of the deceased is to request donations to a cause that was close to their heart. These acts not only pay tribute to a lost loved one, but also leave a positive impact on the world in their memory. Make meaningful gestures Symbolic gestures such as lighting candles, scattering flower petals, or writing farewell messages to release into the wind are examples of meaningful rituals that can provide comfort and closure for mourners. Creating meaningful funeral rituals is a powerful and cathartic process that helps us to honour the lives of our loved ones while finding comfort and support during a time of grief. Embracing personalisation allows us to celebrate the deceased’s life by creating a funeral service that not only pays tribute but also brings solace to those left behind. Thank you for reading. Below are just a few of the collections that we have paid out in July. John Bryce Wilcox Click here to view notice The family of John Bryce Wilcox raised an amazing £2,216 for Cancer Reasearch UK, adding a further £309.22 in Gift Aid. Cancer Research UK is the most popular charity to be donated to here on funeral-notices.co.uk, where we have helped families raise over £80,000 in 2023 for this one charity alone. When you decide to raise money in memory of a loved one, we aim to be as flexible as we can in order to support your wishes. Love Parks Week 2023
Published 24/07/2023
The Love Parks Week Campaign is delivered annually by Keep Britain Tidy with the help of the People’s Postcode Lottery. This year it takes place from 28th July to the 6th August. The campaign celebrates parks and green spaces, and the volunteers and workers who look after them year round. Love Parks Week also provides an opportunity to investigate any issues with local parks. A recent study has shown that many women feel their local parks are unsafe for them. Practical guidelines have been launched to help park managers, local authorities, police and community groups to tackle this issue. The campaign aims to encourage as many people as possible to get out into the great outdoors and take advantage of their local park, whether going for a picnic, using the playground facilities, exercising, or meeting friends. Here are some reasons to visit your local park:

What is water cremation?
Published 04/07/2023
We've heard a lot about water cremation in the news recently with reports that Co-op Funeralcare is preparing to offer water cremation as an alternative to cremation or traditional burial. Water cremation, or alkaline hydrolysis, flameless cremation, bio-cremation, resomation, or aquamation, is the process of disposing of a person's body using water, chemicals and heat. Water cremation is considered more environmentally friendly than traditional methods, making it a more sustainable option for the future. The concept is new to the UK and it has lots of people talking about it. To understand more about what water cremation is, we've done a little research. It's never nice talking about what happens after we die, and some of the language used can feel a little distressing. There are lots of choices you have to make in planning a funeral, for yourself or a loved one, so we try and explore new concepts in funeral care to help educate and make talking about death and dying a little easier.

National Bereaved Parents Day 2023
Published 03/07/2023
Realising that there was no special awareness day that honoured bereaved parents, A Child of Mine decided to start up National Bereaved Parents Day in 2020. The aim of the day is to break the silence that surrounds baby and child loss, and open up the conversation so that bereaved parents don’t feel so alone. It is a sad fact that babies and children do die, and so it is time to stop the taboo and be there for bereaved parents and their families.
