What is National Bereaved Parents Day?

Realising that there was no special awareness day that honoured bereaved parents, A Child of Mine decided to start up National Bereaved Parents Day in 2020. The aim of the day is to break the silence that surrounds baby and child loss, and open up the conversation so that bereaved parents don’t feel so alone.

It is a sad fact that babies and children do die, and so it is time to stop the taboo and be there for bereaved parents and their families.

When is National Bereaved Parents Day?

National Bereaved Parents Day 2023 will take place on Monday 3rd July, helping to raise awareness for any parent who has lost a child. On this day especially, it is the hope that a message can be spread to the bereaved parent community that they are not alone, and that it is ok to talk about their experiences and emotions.

This year’s theme is ‘You Are Not Alone’. If you want to join in and show your support, then you are invited to light a candle at 7pm on Monday 3rd July to remember all the children that have lost their lives too soon.

If you share a photo of your lit candle on social media, make sure to add the below hashtags to show your support for the charity and for all the parents out there who have lost a child:

#nationalbereavedparentsday2023
#achildofmine
#youarenotalone

You can also follow A Child of Mine’s Facebook page for more information on how you can get involved and show your support, as well as read personal stories from bereaved parents.
