This is the third in our series monthly articles looking at the incredible collections that friends and family have donated to when visiting funeral-notices.co.uk, and writing them each month has helped us to focus on all of the good that can be done in memory of someone special.

Grief and sadness are obviously the feelings most associated with the passing of a loved one, but some people find some solace by creating a lasting legacy in their memory. Raising money for charity does just that, by ensuring that donations go towards something or somewhere meaningful to you and your loved one.

Here are just some of the remarkable collections that we have paid out in August.

The family of Daniel chose to raise money for North West Air Ambulance, a charity that they also directly thanked in Daniel’s funeral notice. Air Ambulance charities all over the country do incredible work, and are a popular choice for in memory donations.

Family and friends raised £725 for North West Air Ambulance in Daniel’s memory, plus Gift Aid of £82.26.

Les’s family chose this deserving charity to have a collection for, and an incredible £885 was raised in his memory, plus an extra £199.30 in Gift Aid.

Eunice’s family chose three charities to raise money for in her memory; Macmillan Cancer Support, Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, and Woodlands Hospice Charitable Trust. Here at funeral notices we are happy for you to add two, three, four or even five charities to your notices; it’s all about what charities were meaningful to your loved ones.

Macmillan Cancer Support will do whatever it takes to give people affected by cancer the support they need. For them, friends and family of Eunice raised £250 in donations, plus Gift Aid of £45.80.

Clatterbridge Cancer Charity is the only dedicated charity for patients and research at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. £295.00 was raised for them in memory of Eunice, plus Gift Aid of £43.48.

£205 was raised for Woodlands Hospice Charitable Trust in memory of Eunice, plus Gift Aid of £35.29. Woodlands Hospice is a specialist palliative care hospital based in Aintree, Liverpool.

A lot of the above examples have their money going towards end of life care in some way, all of which are incredibly deserving charities in their own right, but sometimes people want their money to go towards a cause that they were passionate about in their lifetime.

Tony’s family and friends raised £806 for The Farming Community Network, plus an extra £18.79 in Gift Aid. The Farming Community Network have a network of over 400 volunteers across England and Wales, who can provide support in a number of ways to anyone in the farming community who is experiencing difficult times.

I hope this helps to show how a charitable collection in memory of a loved one can provide a lasting legacy, as well as some moments of comfort at a difficult time.
