Here at Funeral Notices, we are privileged to provide a platform for people to express their grief and condolences to famous people who have died. It's a strange feeling when a celebrity passes, we often feel the impact of their loss as if we knew them. Sometimes it's the nostalgia of someone we grew up watching, or they're the same age as us or are from our home town. The feeling of grief is real and can be seen in the thousands of tributes added to the funeral notices of celebrities.

Here we take a look at some of those we have lost in 2024 so far.

Derek Draper 15/08/1967 - 03/01/2024

Kate Garraway's beloved husband Derek Draper passed away on 3rd January 2024. Derek's notice received 156 tributes so far, including this incredibly personal tribute from Alison:
"Dear Kate, Darley and Billy
I send my deepest sympathy 🙏 to you all during this sad time. You have been so brave and courageous. Life can be cruel as I lost my husband at age 46. I thoroughly understand the pain you are all going through.

Actor David Soul, best known for his role in Starsky & Hutch, died 4th January 2024, aged 80.

Glynis Johns 05/10/1923 - 04/01/2024

Mary Poppins star Glynis Johns passed away on 4th January 2024. Glynis was 100 years old and is considered one of the last legends of Hollywood's golden era.

The actress was named a Disney Legend in 1998 and was the oldest living legend until her death. She was also the oldest living Oscar nominee. Glynis received a nomination for acting in the 1960's film The Sundowners.

The death of Glynis was felt across the world by fans of Mary Poppins. Glynis went to school with fellow legend Dame Angela Lansbury.

Jonnie Irwin 18/11/1973 - 02/02/2024

Jonnie Irwin, best known for his TV appearances on shows like A Place in the Sun and Escape to the Country, passed away 2nd February 2024, aged 50.

More than 17,000 people visited Jonnie's funeral notice, with 272 tributes added.

Steve Wright 26/08/1954 - 13/02/2024

Radio DJ Steve Wright
BBC Radio 2 star Steve Wright passed away suddenly on 13th February 2024, aged 69. Steve was due on air the following weekend to present his popular shows including Sunday Love Songs. Steve's radio colleagues paid tribute to Steve after hearing of his death live on air. The incredibly moving tribute shows that followed attracted listeners of all ages, many of whom said they felt like they had lost a friend.

Steve's notice received over 250 tributes, summed up by this tribute by Michelle:
"In a nutshell simply the best - Serious jockin (no G) up in heaven
Sleep Tight
Fan since 1986
Love Michelle - (Hertfordshire)"

Ewen Macintosh 25/12/1973 - 19/02/2024

Best known for playing Keith in the hit series The Office, Ewen Macintosh passed away on 19th February aged 50. The comedy actor played oddball character Keith Bishop in the UK version of the classic sitcom starring Ricky Gervais.

John Savident 21/01/1938 - 21/02/2024

John Savident, known for playing Fred Elliott in Coronation Street, passed away on 21st February 2024.

The 86-year-old was known for his booming voice while playing butcher Fred Elliott on the ITV soap between 1994 and his departure in 2006. His character was instantly recognisable to millions for his bubbly yet often confrontational personality and famous saying: "I say."

Dave Myers 08/09/1957 - 28/02/2024

TV chef Dave Myers, best known as one half of the Hairy Bikers, died on 28th February 2024, aged 66.

Over 19,000 people viewed Dave's notice, with over 300 tributes added. Dave's essence was summed up in this tribute from Velda:
"Ride free Dave. May your road be long, the sun warm on your back, and the music rock 💔"

Steve Harley 27/02/1951 - 17/03/2024

Steve Harley of Cockney Rebel
Cockney Rebel frontman Steve Harley died on 17th March 2024, aged 73.

Steve had a highly successful music career with his band Cockney Rebel, having a huge hit across Europe with Sebastian from their debut album with EMI in 1973, hitting the top spot in the Netherlands and Belgium. It was in 1975 that Steve made his name as Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me) went to number one in the charts.
