Modern funerals are all about choice and personalisation, as funeral directors and other funeral professionals aim to provide a service that is meaningful to you and your loved ones.

One simple way to personalise a funeral is through the choice of music that plays as people walk in and out of the service. There are a lot of classic staples that your funeral director can suggest, but what if you want something a bit more modern?

Here are a few modern pop songs that might just convey the message and vibe that you are looking for.

Heaven by Beyoncé

It wouldn’t be right to compile a pop list without Beyoncé, and a track titled ‘Heaven’ may be very fitting for some of you, especially when you hear the lyrics “Heaven couldn't wait for you, So go on, go home”.

Supermarket Flowers by Ed Sheeran

This song is a touching tribute to Ed Sheeran’s late grandmother, and so would make a fitting tribute to another mum or grandma. With lyrics such as “You were an angel in the shape of my mum”, it is bound to draw a few tears on the day.

How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Goulding

The tone of this song is great, not too sullen, but not too upbeat either. It’s a song about love enduring, and that is something that will resonate with a lot of people.

Funeral by Lukas Graham

This song is like a wry smile straight from the deceased, and is for those who want to bring a bit of a lighter mood to the occasion. As the room hears “Everyone welcome to my funeral, Everyone I know, better be wasted”, hopefully there will be a smile on peoples faces as well as a tear.

See You Again by Wiz Khalifa

This one was popularised by the Fast & Furious franchise, as it was commissioned for the film Furious 7 as a tribute to Paul Walker, an actor in the series who lost his life in a car accident. This song about friendship, family and brotherhood will be perfect for fans of the series as well as fans of both pop and hip-hop.

All I Ask by Adele

I could have honestly picked three or four Adele songs for this list, but I settled on All I Ask. With its simple musical arrangements and lines about memories and ‘no tomorrows’, this one would create a beautiful moment for the right person.

Hopefully you have seen something in this list that inspires you, or at the very least has shown you that you can really choose anything you like; if a song is meaningful to you or your loved one, then you have made the right choice.
