If you haven’t read any of our previous Charity Spotlight blogs, then what we tend to do is pick one charity each month that we can take a closer look at and learn more about. What do they do? How can we support them?

Since it is the season for giving, we thought that for December’s Spotlight we could take a look at a few different charities that may mean something more to many at Christmastime.

Mind: The Mental Health Charity

We covered Mind in our last Charity Spotlight, which you can read here, so we won’t spend too much time on them now. Only to say that the Christmas season can be tough on a person’s mental health, but Mind are there all year round to offer help and support to whoever needs it.

Their ‘Christmas Unwrapped’ campaign depicts images of people who are smiling on the outside, but who might be feeling different on the inside.

You can donate to Mind in memory of a loved one by visiting our Christmas Memorial Wall linked below:

The Trussell Trust: Stop UK Hunger

The cost of living has skyrocketed over the last couple of years, with food shopping and household bills becoming unaffordable for many people.

The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of food banks that is predicted to distribute over one million emergency food parcels this winter; that’s more than in any other year. Thousands of those looking to the food banks for help will be doing so for the very first time.

A donation to the Trussell Trust could help one of those families facing financial hardship to put food on their table. Your money could also help the Trust to campaign for a future where no one needs a food bank.

Shelter: Home is Everything

Homelessness is a nightmare scenario all year round, but a cold and wet British winter will make it unbearable.

On Christmas morning, nearly 139,000 children in England will wake up without a place to call home. This is the highest number on record, and it is an outrage.

Don’t be fooled by politicians who call it a ‘lifestyle choice’, none of these 139,000 children want to sleep in shipping containers, cramped B&Bs, or places with no lockable doors. These children just want somewhere safe to call home this Christmas.

Shelter exists to fight for your right to a safe home. Donating to Shelter will help them to answer emergency calls from families who are facing the fear and uncertainty of being made homeless, help to pay for legal advice for a family in crisis, and allow them to advocate for access to secure and permanent homes for everyone.

Age UK: Make the Most of Later Life

charity_spotlight_christmas_special_photo_right_3
Thousands of older people will spend Christmas Day alone. In fact, Age UK report that over four million older people live alone in the UK, and one million of those had nobody to spend Christmas with last year

Here on funeral-notices.co.uk, we understand just how much losing a loved one can affect a person, but that can be especially difficult when it means you are left alone at Christmas.

Age UK’s vital telephone services are open 365 days a year, including Christmas Day. So, at a time when older people might feel their most lonely and have no one else to turn to, Age UK are there to provide advice, support and friendship.
